A solid Amarone with dried cherries and plums as well as some milk-chocolate and walnut character. It’s full and layered with a chewy, flavorful finish. A little old-school, but I like it. Drink now.

Full bottle 1,408 g. From a vineyard at 410–500 m on strongly calcareous soils, south-west exposure. Aged in wooden barrels. Smells of tea and raspberry syrup and balsamic sweetness. A real composition of contrast – sharp and mellow, cooked and fresh, sepia and scarlet – and yet somehow it melds beautifully. Dried cranberries and cooked cherries infused with fresh pomegranate juice and the bitingly fresh bitter of Seville oranges. Tea and tobacco. Sous bois and pansies. Sage and damsons. Really silky tannins. Beautiful balance. (TC)
