Château Coutet 2022 Barsac 1e Grand Cru Classé 0,375L
‘This has impressive focus. The palate is medium-bodied with a viscous opening, fine acidity, pure and harmonious. A tensile and persistent finish drags you back for another sip. Superb.’ (Neal Martin, 94-96/100 punten)

Mid lemon gold colour. Vibrant aromas of candied apricot and marzipan with plenty of botrytis complexity and some sweet spices from oak already. Lush creamy palate with great extract of dense sweet tarte tatin fruit, and a backbone of just edging bitter orange amère marmalade. Rich very long finish. This is really top drawer this year. Although intensely sweet, as is the vintage, all the balance is here to allow this to develop magnificently.

The 2022 Coutet has a beautifully-defined nose with pure botrytised fruit: tangerine, saffron, honeysuckle and orange rind hints. This has impressive focus. The palate is medium-bodied with a viscous opening, fine acidity, pure and harmonious. A tensile and persistent finish drags you back for another sip. Superb.

A blend of 94% Semillon, 5% Sauvignon Blanc, and 1% Muscadelle, with 158 g/L residual sugar, the 2022 Coutet is pale to medium straw in color. After a little swirling, the nose erupts with gorgeous lime cordial, fresh grapefruit, and mandarin peel scents, followed by wafts of wet pebbles, freshly shaved ginger, and beeswax. The palate is vibrant and shimmery with fantastic intensity and tension, finishing long and layered.

Tempting dried fruit here with spice and floral character. Full and creamy with attractive acidity and a textural finish.

Luscious and sweet, sticky dates and crème caramel flavours, balanced by orange zest and lime. There is interest and contrast here, but even at this exceptional Barsac estate, owned by the Baly family, it is hard not to crave a little more lift.

Light golden yellow, silver reflections. Gooseberries, limes and honey blossom, fresh bouquet. Juicy, elegant, white peach, integrated sweetness, pleasant freshness, yellow tropical fruit on the finish, remains long latsing, harmonious overall picture.

Flowers, pineapples, mango, apricot and candied lemon notes get the wine going. The palate, with its layers of sweet, ripe and overripe, honeyed yellow, and orange fruits is fresh, long, intense, balanced, and most importantly, delicious! And isn't that the purpose of a wine?

Bight and fun, a lovely easy, clean and sleek texture, quite straight with focus and a sense of cool freshness on the palate with some soft bitter edges that are so appealing. Has a great frame, slowly expands, not so overtly sweet or zingy, but this is refined and well delivered, still with concentration in the depth and overall long length. 158g/l residual sugar. 3.88pH.

Subtle and citrusy on the nose with a bitter-orange edge. Rich and full on the palate the botrytis evident on the finish, a bitter note providing persistence. Reserved but should develop further.
