A seriously good Saint-Estèphe in the making, the 2025 Château De Pez opens with rocking aromatics of cassis, attractive red fruit, flowers, and chocolate. On the palate, it's medium to full-bodied and round, with a beautifully layered mouthfeel, ripe tannins, and a great, great finish. This is one hell of an impressive barrel sample.

A firm and juicy red with aromas of berries, chocolate and a touch of hazelnuts. It’s medium-bodied and rather linear, with some softness to it and savoriness at the end. 56% cabernet sauvignon, 42% merlot and 2% cabernet franc.

Plenty of density and silky tannins, with cassis, cappuccino and cocoa beans, high freshness but with real juice and flavour behind. 3.6ph. 8% of press wine. Frederic Rouzaud's father bought this in 1995, and the estate then underwent 20 years of replanting, increasing the Cabernet Sauvignon in the vineyard. The results are clear. 80% 225l oak and 20% foudres, 50% new oak, 3.6pH. 50% new oak. Harvest September 3 to 23.

Blood orange and crunchy red berries on the nose. Dark, muscular and woody on the palate (a classic Saint-Estèphe!), quite tight and underdeveloped at the moment, but the quality of the tannins is exceptional. Spicy and peppery finish, good length. Still a baby but with great potential.

The 2025 Château de Pez, which contains no Petit Verdot this year, is matured in 50% new oak for 18 months. Nicolas Glumineau said that he is trying to make this more refined with "layers of tannins". It has a reserved nose, quite stony/minerally, with hints of graphite percolating through the black fruit. The palate is medium-bodied with grainy tannins, unadulteratedly classic in style with an off-dry, quintessentially Saint-Estèphe finish. Tasted twice and, in fact, the second sample from a sample raised in a Cadus barrel with a lower toasting was better.

The 2025 de Pez is a very serious wine. Blackberry, menthol, licorice, scorched earth, tobacco and incense are all beautifully amplified in the glass. There's gorgeous textural breadth, complexity and class here. All the elements are so well balanced.

Deep garnet-purple colored, the 2025 de Pez leaps with vibrant notes of black currants and black raspberries, giving way to hints of crushed rocks, black olives, and lavender oil. The light- to medium-bodied palate is tight-knit and bright with pure black berry flavors and firm, grainy tannins, finishing long and lively. The blend is 56% Cabernet Sauvignon, 42% Merlot, and 2% Cabernet Franc. It has a pH of 3.6 with a TPI of 72 and the alcohol is 13%.

Mid crimson. Markedly red-fruited and tangy aroma and just the merest hint of vanilla sweetness, not typically St-Estèphe? But as it opens, there’s an inviting stony-mineral character that is very much of the appellation. Relatively light-bodied, the tannins refined and also quite delicate for such a young wine. Subtle, chalky and fresh.
