âteau Laroque is een klassiek Saint-Émilion-domein met een rijke historie, maar vooral de laatste jaren valt het echt op. Onder leiding van David Suire is het huis uitgegroeid tot een vaste waarde binnen de appellatie – met een stijl die strak, energiek en tegelijk bijzonder verfijnd is.
De 2024 is daarvan opnieuw een uitstekend voorbeeld. De wijn is mooi in balans, energiek en puur van karakter. In de neus veel rood en zwart fruit, florale tonen, een vleugje bosgrond en iets zilt-mineraligs dat typerend is voor het kalkrijke terroir van Laroque. De smaak is sappig en crèmig, met rijp fruit, zachte zuren en fijnkorrelige tannines die zorgen voor grip zonder hardheid. De afdronk is opvallend zuiver en houdt lang aan.
Met 98% Merlot en een klein aandeel Cabernet Franc, opgevoed op 80% nieuw eikenhout, sluit deze wijn perfect aan bij de stijl van Saint-Émilion zoals die hoort te zijn: elegant, met inhoud en spanning. In 2024 is Laroque niet alleen een overtuigende Grand Cru Classé, maar ook een van de sterkst geprijsde keuzes uit de regio — zeker als je kijkt naar de kwaliteit die wordt geboden.

Deep garnet-purple colored. Leaps with bold notes of fresh blackberries and kirsch, leading to suggestions of lilac bush, underbrush, and cinnamon stick. The light to medium-bodied palate is elegant and light on its feet with a lively line and fragrant finish

A ripe, plush merlot with lots of dark cherries, plums and berries on the nose. Quite bright on the palate, with lovely dark fruit and freshness. Fine tannins, with a medium body and a lengthy finish. 98% merlot and 2% cabernet franc.

Perfumed raspberry and cherry fruit with creamy scents and lots of rose aromatics. Glossy and rich, this has great concentration from the start. Cool and crisp, a touch of grip - the fine but firm tannins gives a structured mouthfeel with blueberry fruit and freshly picked mint on the finish. Round, juicy and with energy and lovely licks of salty minerality. Well made by winemaker David Suire, this will be a crowd pleaser and likely to be good value. 3.75pH. Ageing 80% new oak, 20% one year old oak for 16 months.

Deep plum colour, cold ash and fennel on the opening, savoury, well judged and well extracted, this is on the slim side, with the focus on cassis bud and rose petals. You probably have to be a bit of a limestone fanatic (as I am) to truly love this vintage of Laroque, because it is less gourmet than in vintages like 2022 and 2023, setting texture and minerality above fruit, but exceptionally well handled by estate director David Suire, and it should soften further ove ageing. Once again a value pick.

Coming from a cooler terroir of pure limestone soils, including 15% hillside parcels, the 2024 Château Laroque is based on 98% Merlot and 2% Cabernet Franc and is resting in 50% new oak. This beautifully hued effort offers vibrant notes of ripe blackberries, juicy cassis, violets, spring flowers, and a chalky minerality. It is medium-bodied, with a pure, elegant, and layered mouthfeel, nicely integrated acidity, and outstanding length. This is a clean, crisp, and elegant Laroque with ripe tannins and plenty of charm. Harvest here stretched from September 27 to October 8.

Quite floral in the nose, with accents of raspberries, and cherries that fill in the perfume. Medium-bodied, bright, crisp, and crunchy, with a focus on its core of vibrant strawberries, red cherries, and raspberries. Elegant, and with a lot of freshness in this vintage, you can enjoy this early for all its fruity charms. The wine was made with 98% Merlot, and 2% Cabernet Franc, 13% ABV. Drink from 2028-2042.
