Laroque is geweldig op dreef sinds de komst van David Suire (voorheen Premier Grand Cru Classé Pavie-Macquin en Larcis-Ducasse) in 2015. Zoals vaker, markeert de komst van de juiste persoon een omslag; de kwaliteit groeit met de jaargang. Robert Parker’s Wine Advocate schreef eerder op: "David Suire is resurrecting one of Saint-Emilion's sleeping giants." Laroque wordt terecht gezien als "Saint-Emilion's brightest rising star" (Vinous).
Suire zorgt ervoor dat Laroques bijzondere terroir met veel rode en blauwe klei alsmede kalksteen eindelijk weer volledig tot zijn recht komt. De wijngaarden liggen op het Saint-Cristophes-des-Bardes-plateau, waar ook buurman en appellatiefavoriet Croix de Labrie op ligt en dat zegt veel over de kwaliteit. Zeker deze warme, droge 2025-jaargang is het waterhoudende kalkplateau essentieel geweest voor de frisheid en levendigheid van de wijn.
Het succes van de afgelopen jaren, was reden voor Laroque om op hetzelfde pad door te gaan. Dat heeft deze vintage nog een andere betekenis gekregen. Het aandeel Cabernet Franc is in recente jaren steeds iets kleiner is geworden en dit jaar nog maar 1% bedraagt. Het heeft de Merlot net een miniem beetje aromatischer gemaakt. Denk hier aan pruimen, rode bessen, rode bloemen, met laurier en drop in de neus. Daarachter een laag van natte steen en mineraliteit. Meer aandacht voor terroir en fruit, dan de maar houtgedomineerde stijl van voorheen (zij het subtiel aanwezig). Dit is gestructureerd, fris en barstensvol fruit. Dat geeft samen een goed signaal af; het drinkplezier is een deel van de kwaliteit van Laroque. Het is moeilijk om het glas te laten staan - zo eenvoudig kan het soms ook zijn.

Another great success and value pick for Laroque. Really aromatically complex. Ripe and pristine black bramble berries on the nose, perfumed and nicely fragrant. Lovely aromatic purity. Smooth and so silky, smooth, svelte as Laroque does so well. Mouthwatering with bright acidity but so juicy – strawberry and cherry with a hint of cranberry and soft accents of dried herbs liquorice and wet stones. Grippy but so charming even at this point. Tension with freshness, perfectly polished and friendly. A yield of 31hl/ha with varying yields depending on the terroir from 25-45hl/ha. 3.40pH.

Tasted twice with consistent results, the 2025 Château Laroque is a gorgeous wine in the making based on 99% Merlot and 1% Cabernet Franc that will spend 16 to 18 months in a mix of new barriques, second-use barrels, and foudre. Cassis and black raspberry fruits, graphite, spring flowers, and violet nuances all shine on the nose, and it's medium-bodied on the palate, with a pure, graceful mouthfeel, ripe tannins, and a great finish. It shows the more focused, structured style of the vintage, yet the tannins are remarkably polished. Checking in at 13.8% alcohol with a pH of 3.4 and yields of 31 hectoliters per hectare, this is a brilliant effort from this Saint-Émilion Grand Cru Classé that's going to have some early accessibility yet also evolve gracefully.

The 2025 Laroque is a gorgeous, super-elegant wine. Vibrant, salivating acids and beams of tannin are the first signs we are on the clay/limestone plateau in Saint-Émilion's Saint-Christophe-des-Bardes sector. Blood orange, mint, chalk and white pepper bleed into a core of red-toned fruit. Medium in body, with striking energy and tension, Laroque is positively stellar in 2025. This is another superb showing from the team led by Technical Director David Suire. Tasted two times.

While the bouquet shows a darker register, the palate remains fresh, lending the wine an elegant austerity that should integrate further with élevage.
