Château Latour à Pomerol ligt op een bijzonder terroir aan de westkant van het beroemde Pomerol-plateau, met bodems van kiezelhoudende klei, rijke ijzerlagen en een uitstekend natuurlijk drainagesysteem. Dit zorgt voor een wijnstijl die Merlot op zijn meest expressief en gestructureerd laat zien: rijp, vol, maar altijd met finesse en balans. Het château kent een rijke geschiedenis en werd vooral beroemd dankzij de legendarische jaargang 1961. Sindsdien is het een vaste waarde in de top van de rechteroever. De 2024 jaargang, die bekendstaat om z’n frisheid en evenwicht, lijkt ideaal te zijn voor een wijn als Latour à Pomerol: de wijn combineert waarschijnlijk een diepe expressie van zwarte kersen, pruimen en cacao met subtiele kruidigheid en florale lift. De mondstructuur zal zich waarschijnlijk tonen met zachte maar aanwezige tannines en een klassieke, ietwat gespannen finale. Verwacht een wijn die in zijn jeugd charme toont, maar die ook prachtig veroudert.

Fresh, bright, soft, medium-bodied, and light on its feet, there is an elegance, and refined quality to the energetic, red fruits on the palate, as well as an open quality, so you can enjoy this just about on release, or wait a bit, if you can, and it will be even better. The wine is produced from 100% Merlot. The harvest took place September 17 - September 28. Drink from 2028-2040.

The 2024 Latour à Pomerol is plush, fruity and very easy to like. A blast of dark cherry, plum, cedar, spice and tobacco makes a strong opening statement. Racy and forward, with terrific presence, Latour à Pomerol is terrific. It's a wine that perfectly captures what was possible in 2024, without trying to be too much. Commendable.

The 2024 Latour à Pomerol was picked September 17 to 28 and aged in 50% new oak. It has what you might describe as a "sedate" bouquet that unfurls in the glass with blackberry and minty notes, perhaps just lacking some delineation and éclat (brightness). The palate is medium-bodied and a little oaky on the entry, but there is decent fruit concentration on the mid-palate and smoothness towards the finish. The question is whether there is sufficient fruit here to absorb the wood. Hopefully it will. The 2024 is just missing a bit of personality compared to others from the J-P Moueix stable.

Acidity high, in the character of the vintage, but this is one to look out for, particularly after another year of softening ageing. 50% new oak. Harvest 17 to 28 September
