“De Meursault van het Zuiden”
Cuvée Odyssée is een biologische monocépage van chardonnay met een prachtige balans tussen fruit en hout waarbij het hout echt de rol speelt zoals in een Meursault of Puligny-Montrachet; het geeft stijl en complexiteit. Het fruit is prachtig rijp met een kenmerkende volle smaak. Mooi Bourgondisch bouquet met kweepeer, guave en citroengras. Delicaat getoast. Conference peer, nectarine en citroenzeste in de smaak, met body en concentratie als een goede witte Bourgogne, zijdezacht qua textuur. Mooie roomtoets in de lange afdronk.
Jancis Robinson schreef eerder bijzonder treffend over deze cuvée: ‘You’d quite happily pay twice as much if it said Puligny on the label’. Dus houd je van een goede witte Bourgogne, probeer dan zeker ook eens de Cuvée Odyssée van Jan en Caryl Panman.

Serve at around 12–14 °C (54–57 °F). Not a wine to drink fridge cold. A stencil drift of smoke across the tilleul fragrance on the nose. White currant, russet apple, early autumn sweetness. There's a subtle, crystalline purity that is somehow rounded and held in a breath-taking pause, like the trembling dewdrops on a cobweb as they catch the milky light of early autumn. Based on the several vintages of Rives-Blanques Odysée in my cellar, this is embryonic. It has the confidence and clear-cut clarity of youth, but hiding a matrix of complexity that will segue into honeyed, mineral-tense, multi-dimensional, nuances as it ages. Delicious now, but personally I'd hold this back for another year or two.
