The Château La Croix de Gay 2014 has a fragrant, well-defined bouquet with red berries intermingling with sous bois and tobacco scents. The palate is medium-bodied with fine tannin, supple in the mouth with good acidity, perhaps just a little linear on the finish, but maintaining a decent level of freshness. Fine.
93: One of only a handful of Pomerols made with 100% Merlot, La Croix de Gay comes from two separate vineyard parcels. It’s almost a quintessence of classy Merlot in 2014: rich, perfumed, sumptuous and concentrated, yet with balancing acidity. The 30% new oak is deftly integrated. (13.5%; 100Me)
