A dense purple color along with rich minerality and sweet notes of boysenberries and raspberries are found in this 2010. The irrepressible Michel Rolland (the winemaking consultant at Phelan-Segur) has fashioned an impressively pure, deep, classic St.-Estephe with a supple personality as well as robust tannins. Cellar it for 2-3 years and drink it over the following 12-15 years.
90 This has a light, attractive bouquet of blackberry, raspberry leaf and cedar – well defined and quite feminine for Phelan. The palate does not quite live up to the nose with dusty tannins, sandalwood and a touch of liquorice, yet it remains nicely composed towards the finish. Drink now-2020. Tasted November 2012.
17,5 Dark fruit and graphite. Inviting. Pretty unyielding on the palate at the moment. Dense and chewy and very firm but there's the fruit to hold it in place. Challenging right now but has a juicy mineral aftertaste that bodes well. (JH)
