Unfortunately, yields are down 50%, but the 2018 Côtes Du Rhône Villages Plan De Dieu will certainly be an outstanding wine. Based on 70% Grenache and 30% Mourvèdre from the Plan De Dieu appellation, which is located on the pebbly soils spanning the valley floor between Cairanne and Vacqueyras, it was completely destemmed and is still aging mostly in neutral barrels, with 30% being new. Terrific Grenache-driven notes of strawberries, black raspberries, garrigue, and crushed flowers all emerge from this more medium to full-bodied, seamless, incredibly elegant 2018. The vintage’s plushness (yet freshness) is front and center, it has fine tannins, and it’s going to put a smile on your face right out of the gate.
