Familia Nin-Ortiz ontstond uit de samenwerking tussen Carlos Ortiz en Ester Nin, een van de pioniers van de moderne Priorat. Vanuit Porrera, het koelste dorp van de appellatie, bouwden zij een klein familiebedrijf uit dat vandaag wordt voortgezet door zoon Andreu Ortiz.
Klein, maar ontzettend fijn
Met slechts 15 hectare wijngaarden en circa 35.000 flessen per jaar behoort Nin-Ortiz tot de meest kleinschalige topdomeinen van Priorat. Het wijnhuis was het eerste in Spanje met een Biodyvin-certificering en onderscheidt zich door een compromisloze biodynamische werkwijze, volledig handwerk, spontane vergisting, uitsluitend gebruikte vaten en een ongekende focus op elegantie.
Waar veel Priorat bekendstaat om kracht en concentratie, laat Nin-Ortiz juist de frisheid van Porrera, oude Garnatxa- en Carinyena-stokken en de unieke leisteenbodems spreken. Hun herontdekking en aanplant van de zeldzame Carinyena Blanca onderstreept bovendien hun rol als bewakers én vernieuwers van het Priorat-erfgoed.

Flor de la Coma is afkomstig van het hoogste deel van een meer dan honderd jaar oude wijngaard, waar de opbrengsten extreem laag zijn: soms slechts 100 tot 200 gram druiven per stok. De wijn laat zien hoe groot oude Garnatxa kan zijn wanneer concentratie en elegantie samenkomen. Donker fruit, viooltjes, specerijen en natte leisteen worden gedragen door verfijnde tannines en een indrukwekkende lengte.

Their new red from 2023 that I already previewed last year has now been bottled. The 2023 Flor de la Coma was produced with the grapes from the younger vines they planted in the La Coma d'en Romeu in 2020, which is like a mini-Coma d'en Romeu, with the character from the place. They are planting the surroundings from the old vineyards with the same genetics—taking a massal selection—continuing the walls or margins and starting a new range called Flor from the young vines that eventually will be part of the grand vin. This was done here and will be done in La Rodeda and Mas d'en Caçador. This is the palest of the reds and is pure Garnacha that was fermented destemmed and matured in used 600-liter barrels, the same vessels they have found that work well for the La Coma d'en Romeu. The wine comes from a place with strong character that gives aromatic complexity that reflects the biodiversity of the place. It has 14.5% alcohol, not lacking ripeness or clout, and is fine-boned with a fluid mouthfeel. 2,600 bottles produced. It was bottled in April 2025.

A light-bodied 100% Garnatxa from the producer’s La Coma d’En Romeu estate, the grapes in the 2023 Flor De La Coma come from a newborn clone from ancient vines. Translucent in color, the tannins are youthful, firm, and tense. The fruit is exuberantly red, a celebration of cherry and raspberry dusted in dried herb. It goes against the grain of typical Priorat in its ethereal nature, with only 2,600 bottles made. Drink now through 2033, if not longer.
