The 2022 Féniks is pure Pinotage, planted in 1976, grown on granite and quartz soils with partial stem inclusion, and aged in used French oak for 11 months. This is completely different from many other Pinotages, much more Grenache-like in style. It is pure, with heavenly red berry fruit mixed with rooibos and bay leaf. The palate is medium-bodied with pliant tannins, tensile from start to finish. There’s fine grip with a mineral-driven, supremely well-focused finish. The kind of Pinotage that will alter your preconceptions about Pinotage and what it can achieve.

This is a floral and blue-fruited pinotage showing aromas of violets, blueberries, rosemary and blue plums. It’s medium-bodied, juicy and supple, with excellent freshness and a creamy finish. Partial whole bunch with about 50% destemmed. From bush vines planted in 1976. 1665 bottles produced. Drink now or hold.
