De wereldwijde reputatie van de Henschke's stoelt natuurlijk allereerst op beroemde wijnen als de Hill of Grace en Mount Edelstone en die zijn inderdaad buitengewoon briljant maar ook bijzonder schaars en kostbaar. Gelukkig is daar ook nog Henry's Seven, de best mogelijke introductie tot Henschke's fijnzinnige huisstijl.
Henry's Seven is een blend met Shiraz in de hoofdrol (77%), hier à la Côte Rôtie vergist met 2% Viognier. De wijn is jeugdig en energiek, sappig en overvloedig, met rijpe kersen en bessen, abrikoos en anijs, viooltjes en lavendel, gedroogde kruiden en specerijen, dat alles in perfecte balans en harmonie. Ronduit verrukkelijk! Hoort eigenlijk nog een jaar of twee te rijpen in de kelder maar dat is met al dat verleidelijke fruit bepaald geen geringe opgave.

Deep crimson. Intense black cherry, graphite, dark chocolate aromas with hints of stone fruit and aniseed. Concentrated black cherry, dark plum, praline flavours, with some apricot notes, fine chalky dry/ grippy textures and roasted walnut notes. Finishes firm with chinotto, dark berry fruits. Sturdy and compact with very good density and vigour. Should unfold with bottle age and best to wait for a while. 77% shiraz, 11% grenache, 10% mataro, 2% viognier. 10 months maturation in 5% new and 95% seasoned French oak hogsheads.

Really youthful, bright and lively in the glass. Aromas of dark cherry, blueberry, limestone, dried herbs, violets and spice. Rich and fleshy on the palate, there's a plush core of satsuma plum, blueberry, sarsaparilla, anise and a lick of menthol There's plenty of generosity here. Tannins are structured and shapely and the acidity has real crunch and purpose to it.
