Is er een betere Chardonnay denkbaar op dit prijsniveau? Wellicht is zo hier en daar wel een wijn te vinden die zich met de Kumeu Estate kan meten, zoals de M3 Chardonnay van Shaw + Smith of de Reed Vineyard Chardonnay van Blank Canvas, maar die zijn meer uitgesproken van stijl, daar waar de wijn van Kumeu de rust zelve is. Zo kalm en beheerst, zo puur en perfect rijp, zo romig en fris tegelijk, zo stijlvol en compleet. Een benchmark voor hedendaagse Chardonnay die altijd en overal overtuigt, ook in de vaderlandse topgastronomie. Het visitekaartje van een wijnhuis van wereldklasse.
"A blend of six different sites in Kumeu on clay with 60% owned by the Brajkoviches but all farmed by Milan B. All dry-farmed. Lots of different clones: 15, 6, 95, 54 and 1066. Hand-harvested. Whole-bunch pressed. Spontaneous fermentation in used French oak barrels (usually 20% new but not for this lighter vintage). 100% malo. 11 months’ maturation in barrel. Distinctly lemon nose and mouth-filling. Good substance on the palate and definition. Great drink for the near term! Quite a step up from the Village. Athletic. I asked about ageability and was assured by Paul Brajkovich that the 2019 is looking very good now. Neat finish." (Jancis Robinson MW, 16,5+/20)

"Fruit off several sites in the Kumeu region and, as is the norm, whole-bunch pressed and barrel fermented with natural yeast. It’s a gentle, fruit-driven wine – all citrus with white nectarines, a hint of baked apple, yet a fine layer of nutty lees and creaminess renders this soft and supple. A little juicy, very approachable and best in its youth."
